“We have always understood recycling as an exercice in memory. It involves never forgetting traditional architectural solutions, especially with regard to controlling the entry of sunlight, natural ventilation, natural materials with no cladding, etc., but always within a modern frame of reference, relying on new architectural languages. In this regard, contemporary Japanese architecture, especially that of Kazuyo Sejima, and Herzog & De Meuron’s constant quest for new textures and schemes have served as a guideline and reference for us, as we are always seeking simplicity and elegance in the details and finish.”
